A Different Kind Of Thriller

This find is a result of one of those periods in time where you have absolutely nothing to do, so you YouTube surf...and I like to watch just about anything for a laugh. Or anything that intrigues me.

This vid definitely had both factors on lock.

Call me crazy, but I think the song is rockin'! I'm tryna find it online now to add to my collection, lol.

Enjoy!

Juuuust A Reminder...

This is totally pointless.
But...
Click here and follow your girl.

I just hit my 200th update (woo hoo?), so just because of that I'm unprotecting my updates from today until next Friday. After that, it's back to private mode (would you believe I really have stalkers?!). Start following while you can, or send an add request after!

a few random things that made my week AWESOME:

-Quality time with my niece
-Getting more hours at work (=more money!)
-Buying a new phone
-Finding someone to buy my old phone
-Not feeling bad about spending money on a phone because I'm getting more than half my money spent right back for selling the old phone
-Finding a check while cleaning up, meaning I know have more than half of my money back from buying the new phone
-Seeing my name in the credits beside "Audio Engineer" at my new job
-Seeing old family and friends at Nu World rehearsal earlier in the week
-Going to the movies twice in one week
...and it's only Friday! Hope your week/end brings you just as much awesomeness.

an example of how I get through my day...

A conversation with KC via text message:

KC: Once again, somebody mistakens me for Lebanese. *sigh*
Me: LMFAO! Word?
KC: Word. This makes the 4th time this month...I don't even know where Lebanon is
Me: Lol, maybe you should look it up :o)
KC: Naaaahhhhh. I'll just tell them I'm Persian...I know where that is.
Me: LMFAO

With slow Mondays like this, a good laugh is always welcome. Especially during work hours.
I love my friends.

the post of randomness: new section alert!

Take a look to the right of my blog. Yep, right above the followers list.

I'd like to introduce my new section of my blog layout: Why Watch Comedy...When I've Got Family? It'll feature some of the funniest and most random things I've ever heard, from the people I love most: my family. I've got one up now from my good friend Franky, link to his blog is included. I'll try to change it up as frequently as I can, and if there are links I'll provide them.

Yeah, I know. I kinda wasted space, but who cares? I think my new section is theeeee sheeeet. Feel free to comment on them as well, whenever you can.

my official valentine's day post: so what?

I'm in love with love as much as the next near-mid-20s woman, but when it comes to Valentine's Day...call me the Scrooge.

...well, maybe not the Scrooge, but there's nothing about this "holiday" that sends me into some estrogen charged frenzy. It's just another day, just like today. Friday the 13th? So what? Valentine's Day? And, your point is? The Hallmark headquarters are probably having a huge office party right now; V-Day is second (behind Christmas) in money spent on cards, candy, flowers and all things red with hearts. Sure, it's a beautiful idea; 24 hours of professing your undying love to your husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, partner, lover, FwB or FB (and I don't mean Facebook). But, realistically, why not make everyday your own Valentine's Day?

Of the few female friends I have, more than half of them have expressed the need to have something done for them tomorrow. Someone's boyfriend better get her this, and someone's boyfriend better take her out tomorrow, or he's in trouble; etc. But the reality for that half is...they don't get anything else on any other day. So, my opinion is this: if you're so caught up in ONE DAY, you have subconsciously submitted to the fact that you are worth one day of pampering, love, affection, what have you. So...if your mate only makes you feel special tomorrow, what about the other 320 days left in this year? Do they not count since you got your spa treatment, dinner, concert tickets and good loving on V-Day? Think about it.
Scuba and I talked recently about tomorrow and we both reached the agreement that it's really not a big deal. I don't ask for much, and he surprises me at random with little things all of the time. I think that's enough. Sure we may go out tomorrow (duh...gotta see some people get hacked up by my man Vorhees), but I'm not expecting bells and whistles because some naked baby with a bow and arrow is being celebrated.

For those who are doing it big, celebrating V-Day with the most expensive gifts, outings and long ass Zales receipts: have fun. I'm not someone who totally detests any of these things, they're just not for me. But whatever floats your boat...

For the people who are somewhat salty about not having a Valentine for tomorrow: be your own Valentine. How about that? That way you can only be upset with yourself for not picking up a last minute card. If you don't like the idea, there's always April 14.

Blogroll Amnesty what, now?

You Da Best!!! Who? YOUUU!

Had to steal that from Khaled to make a point really quick.

To get straight to the point, my number of followers has been picking up a little in the past couple of days . So, because of that, I'd like to take some time and say thank you to all new readers! There's a nice little bit of you, so forgive me for not including individual shout-outs. I appreciate the comments (read: I LOVE comments, so bring 'em on!), and I try my best to comment on your blogs, as well. I just figured I could post an official "thank you" to you guys. Keep reading, there'll be lots more to come!

So, I'll be honest and say I've been editing this post since the middle of January. Being a procrastinator finally paid off! I was doing my usual Monday evening thing, so true to fashion following chillaxing after work, I decided to randomly peruse some blogs. Bingo! I stumbled upon this blog and learned a little something about Blogroll Amnesty Day. It's the blogosphere's first (and only) major holiday, observed on February 3rd annually. Anyone can participate, the rules are pretty simple. Original rules state that you highlight and provide links for five blogs that you read that have less traffic than you. Since I was already doing a B.A.D.-styled post, honoring you guys; I figured I'd add my own flavor to this blogiday. And I could be making a big deal about this, having only 23 followers, but screw it...you guys are awesome. This is how I thank you for being awesome. You should do the same for whatever blogs you read!

I was going to divide my B.A.D. blogroll into sections, but it's a time for change...so no segregation here. It's in no specific order, which is ultimately best because honestly I couldn't tell you a favorite even if I meditated on it.
If you see your blog title/name/link up here...yes, I think you're dope. :)

Thanks again to my readers. "My" readers. Ha. You guys make a woman feel all bubbly inside.

friday freebie!

Melt
Ignite each chakra
With friendly touch. Baby, our
Connection is ill.

Happy Friday, folks! Another weekend is upon us...and I have NOTHING to do. I tell you, this staying in/saving money thing is agony sometimes. Anyways, I'm off to run errands before work. Got a couple of posts for you later in the day, but for now enjoy the haiku quickie...and these things running through my mind:
-Ron Brownz sucks eggs. I'd like him to jump out of a windowwwwww.
-WTF is up with all these murder-suicides? First LA, then one the next day in Annapolis, then yesterday in Ohio. It can't be that bad.
-When's the next Black Star album dropping? Kweli and Mos, we need you!
Got some others, but this post is a little too random for my own liking.
Everyone have a safe weekend.

random time has come again...

Let me just say...I am friggin TIRED. I had a 4:30 AM wake-up call, which meant nothing because I didn't go to sleep until well after 1AM. Nu World's two shows in Harrisburg were excellent, though. Turns out they bused more than half of the city's middle school students to one school just to see us perform. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Now that that's out of the way, I just realized that I'm a ninja. B-)
Not literally, but there aren't a lot of things you guys (or anyone else, really) knows about me. I actually prefer it that way, but for the sake of gathering some more readers of my blog, I figured I'd be Facebook cliche and tell you a few random things about myself. I'm 23, so I'll give you 23 facts...and maybe a freebie. Here we go:

1. In elementary school, my mother wanted me to "stand out" from the other uniform wearing children...so she sewed Kinte cloth fabric onto my already custom tailored unis. My family was also the family that always performed during Black History Month, up until my last year of middle school. You can imagine how social I was by then.

2. I'm a lefty, but I taught myself to write with my right hand when I was 10.

3. I completed one semester of 9th grade at a public high school. I finished high school as a home school student.

4. I used to take karate when I was younger. Got my yellow belt ass kicked by a 3rd degree black belt (they were testing ME to move to green! WTF?!), so I quit. But, I took lessons from my uncle afterward.

5. My biggest life goal is to be Chief Mixer/Engineer of my own recording studio. I got a certificate in AudioWorks from The Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts in Maryland, but it's pretty difficult to break into that business when you're a black female. Two strikes. Ouch. But, I'm working toward my goal; I've been doing a few FOH (Front of House) gigs for some local bands.

6. My younger brother and I make beats, and we've combined forces to create the production duo known as BlackMuzik™ . Click the link to check out some of our tracks, and add us if you like. We've even got beats for sale. Yes, I'm whoring myself. But it's all about the music!

7. I got the nickname "Ziggy" in 7th grade. One of my classmates randomly started adding extra sounds to my name, so it stuck.

8. I collect knives and lighters from different countries. My favorite knife I have so far is made of pewter and wood. I only say it's my favorite because I got it while in Malaysia, and had to sneak it through customs to bring it back home with me. Yeah, I'm bad.

9. I also save my movie ticket stubs for the year. My mother and I like to see who went to the movies more in a year. She won in 2007, and I won in 2008 with 32 ticket stubs.

10. My father started teaching me to play drums when I was a year and a half old.

11. For some odd reason, men who have nice calf muscles (pause: drool.) are a turn on. I also love facial hair. I have NO reason why, though; so asking will get you nowhere, lol.

12. I had my first poem published by the International Library of Poetry when I was 14.

13. I love animals. When I was younger, at one point my family housed: a cockatiel, two short haired hamsters, one cockerspaniel, one shih tzu, one gray tabby, a snapper turtle and a few beta fish. Zoo, maybe? We've now whittled down to Gracie, our black/white tabby, and Sheba, our Johnson American Bulldog. I'm convinced they're both humans reincarnated to animal bodies.

14. The shih tzu I mentioned? My first pet ever, given to me as a 1st birthday present. He died when I was 16, he was 15. I cried like a baby for days.

15. I was on the fourth season of HBO's "The Wire"...and I played a 7th grader. And I'm so serious.

16. I talk to myself a lot. No, not multiple personality talking, but I like to talk things out loud, even when people are around. It sometimes gets me into trouble.

17. I don't have a good track record with females, so my female friends are very few.

18. Ever since my little brother passed away in 2000 (and maybe before then), my connection and encounters with the supernatural have become more frequent. I think it's pretty neat.

19. I have the habits of chewing the inside of my jaw and cracking my knuckles.

20. I've had three career goals in my life so far: meteorologist (ages 6-12), professional basketball player (12-16) and engineer (16-present).

21. I participated in a citywide campaign to spread the word about the HIV/AIDS epedemic. *click "spread the word" to see the commercial*. It was pretty weird to see my face plastered on billboards and public transportation for a few months. I was officially creeped out when a friend of mine called me from the men's bathroom of a club and said, "Yo, I'm taking a piss and looking at your face at the same time! I was about to take this shorty home, but I came in here and saw your poster...so I'ma chill." Yikes.

22. I have a sneaker fetish. Not just a "ooooh, these are cute" type fetish, no; I have to be different (thanks to moms mention in #1...hindsight is 20/20)...when it comes to sneakers, or anything I wear really, I hate having something I know other people have. So the sneaks have to be some ridiculous color or pattern for me to even consider copping them. I love Chuck Taylors, and my closet is holding...over 10 pair? Something like that. I also love hoodies, but that's another story.

23. I started getting in trouble a lot when I hit middle school. Not for typical middle school stuff, like cutting, or necking some dude in the basement (lmao@ the story I have about that...not about me though!)...I refused to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance with the rest of the school. After a few debates with my homeroom teacher on why the Pledge is a piece of crap, I was sent to the office to have my mother called. You could literally hear the assistant principal's jaw hitting the floor when my mother told her she wasn't coming to the school for that, because "my daughter has her own beliefs, which stem from my household, and she was not raised on saluting the American flag". Ouuuuuch!

*24. My nephew and I were in the same grade together in school. No one believed he was my nephew. Ever.

**25. Throughout my years as a performer, I've gotten the awesome opportunities to open for the O'Jays, The Last Poets, Amiri Baraka, Desmond Tutu, and countless others. I also featured as a drummer with the UniverSoul Circus when they came to Baltimore.

Alright, so I gave you two freebies. Hopefully this gave you guys a little more insight to the random, kind of awesome, enigmatic mind that is me. If not...lol, I don't know what to tell you. Guess you're S.O.L.

(deuces.)
btw: I also like comments...hint, hint.

for those who worried....

...if you did at all..
I'm not dead! Yayyyyy!
Seriously, it's been almost 3 weeks (yikes!), and I've missed a lot of poems, random posts from the Bad Sum Bitch, 30/30 challenges, et cetera; et cetera. However, there are perfectly reasonable explanations for my absence. As you know, the family took a vacation toward the end of last year. Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will definitely miss us, but I have lots of pictures and stories to post, so I digress. As SOON as I got back to the U.S., I was faced with something that I've never experienced before, so my brain's crisis control was a little on the fritz trying to find ways to cope. I guess there are no red buttons to push in my cerebrum, so my brain said "SHUT DOWN...NOW!"...and I found myself basically a hermit for almost a week. But alas, I'm here, I'm alive...and I've got lots of crap to post!

As soon as I can get everything in order, you'll be annoyed by me soon. Funny stuff, vacation pics, the rest of the 30/30 (which I'm thoroughly pissed about; they should have posted automatically!), and whatever random things cross my mind.

Happy '09, peoples. It's late, I know; but it still counts.

twitter madness

Ha.
I've been hoodwinked! Bamboozled!
Anyways, I finally gave in to adulthood peer pressure and opened up a Twitter account. Yayyyy, me. It seems pretty basic (I'd like to call it Facebook Status Updates for Dummies, or Blogging: The VERY Beginning), but again something I really don't need...so it's essentially for kicks. LOL, I actually went to the site, checked it out and said, "What?! That's it. You just tell people what you're doing? This is stupid."...
...then I proceded to get my login information via conformation e-mail. O_o
Hey, what better way is there to send people into extreme boredom? I'll just jump on my phone and let you know my every waking move every five seconds.
Not seriously, but I'll give it a shot.
If you are an unfortunate soul who doesn't know when to say no, like me; or you really do have fun with this thing, you should be kind and add me.

Click here and check me out.

(deuces.)

12/03 *update: After a few days in the Twitter universe, it's really not all that it's cracked up to be. Really. Deleting the account asap (aka whenever Twitter's server decides to work). LOL, at least I can said I had a Twitter account...right?

he's scoob, and he's here.

My good buddy Scoob, aka Mr. Official, aka the ShoNuff of Snuzz has now entered the blogosphere. It's titled "A Few Things"; just his almost-daily chronicle of randomness, childhood memories and Rolling Road stories. Check him out, I'm pretty sure you'll find some things either:
-Funny as hell
-Random
-Nostalgia inducing
If you weren't paying attention, his link is included.
:)
Just click "A Few Things".
See? I did it for you again.
You're welcome.

random day, random post.

Went to work today.
Pause.
Let me just say: work on a SATURDAY? Complete and utter madness.
Anyways, this post really isn't about much, so I'll keep the random to a minimum. Had to put a guy out of the library today (lmfao); he was watching porn on the public PCs. I mean, if you're entertained by watching a person/people do something you could be doing, but won't for some odd reason; rock off. (Ahem, Mr. Valentino? "Rock off"=" Do your thing", in my personal universe. (: ) But...keep in mind, you're in a public library, and the nosey children standing behind you are going to pay attention to your monitor if they see booty taking up %95 of the screen. Hmm. Anything else worth typing happen? Not really. Let's move on, before I think of something to type here anyway, ruining the whole point of this already random blog. Did that make sense?

Going to my older cousin's tonight for "Ladies' Night". Should be fun, but...in my experience, sometimes Ladies' Night (my cousin's or anyone's for that matter) has the potential to turn into "Men Ain't Sh*t" night, which is totally not cool in my book. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some teenybopper movie, sterotypical female character, who is untouched and has never been hurt. But...male bashing? Nahhh. I don't bash, I move on. Besides, what can a group of awfully chatty damaged females do to help my situation?
Exactly.
Another con to Ladies' Night: tooooo much talking.
The pro: My cousin's cooking. Ghandi would love it.
Another pro: social drinking.

...so, I'm going to Ladies' Night!

Brightside to this long day: If you read any of the crap I type, you'll know that fall is my favorite season. Period. Today was a beautiful day, so I snapped a couple pics via the smartphone. Enjoy the part of Baltimore that The Wire never showed. Ha.

And I always come back to the cul-de-sac. Looking looking at this same image for 23 years. Wow.
(hella sentence frags, but so what?)

i HATE band season, but this guy's pretty awesome.

I hate Morgan State's Marching Band season.
Let me clarify. I love the band. Their horn sections would make Gabriel take notice. The drumline...damn, the drumline. Sickness.
But...if you don't mind not having a life, social or otherwise; and alienation of your family is fine to you, you won't have a problem with the marching band's schedule. Personally, I think it's garbage. LOL, I only have a vendetta against them because it's been keeping me from someone I consider to be a very important person in my life.

This guy?
This is Duane.
And I realized two days ago why I can (and do) call him my best friend.
:)

LOL, I know for a fact that Duane's reading this, so I'm gonna use this time and make this personal. There is a reason to this post (underlying theme: GROWTH), so ride with me for a while or hop out here. Thanks.

So....Duane! The family misses you, man. Jabari, Chao and I were actually talking about you a couple of days ago, and in our conversation I finally came to the realization that you're a grown man now! Wow! When the hell did that happen? We've been around eachother all our lives, the notion of you growing up on me never came to mind. But, here you are now, Mr. Popular at your school, with your facial hair and deep voice, having your own opinion...you make me sick. :)
Seriously though, I thought about all the times our friendship was tested because of those blasted Morgan Bears, and I thought that maybe it was time for me to let you do you. You seem to have fun hanging out with your band colleagues, so why not let others see the light that I see in you, right? I mean, our friendship was almost over in '06, but now that I look back on the whole situation and the events surrounding it...maybe I was being selfish. We both know you haven't had the most splendid time making friends and all--I'll keep it simple and say children are cruel--but now that you're basically a friggin' social butterfly, I guess I'll relax my friend/motherly instincts and back off. I've only missed one band showcase, and that was the last one I missed. You should expect to hear your very own "Dooooooooooane!!!!!!!!!" section drowning out all the others come December 6th. Ha.

All this rambling was done to say this: Duane, you're an awesome human being. We've had a lot of ups and downs, failed attempts at relationships (lmao), beefs and the like; but I love you dearly. You're my very best friend, my brother. And I'm so happy to see you happy in your Degrassi-like universe, rocking the hell out of those quints like they owe you money. I'm really happy to see that you've grown out of that pesky insecure phase. Those people who hurt and teased you in the past just helped to make you more awesome. What makes me even happier is the fact that you went against the grain, failing to become a clone in Bodymore, Murdaland; some random lost soul who finds who they are in the image of others. You're so not them. I'm honored to watch you mature each year and become the man I know you were raised to be. And even though "we" never worked out, just know that from this day forth, there's a teeny tiny spot on my heart especially marked for you. Reaaaally teeny tiny. :) Just kidding, you're the bees knees in my eyes.
Pssst. I know you get the girls, too. PIMPIN'!

Love you, man. See you soon.

bootleg book review

So, I just realized that I took a break from blogging...without saying I would take a break.
Awesome.
Let me explain a little something about myself: I am a book fanatic. Seriously. Example: Of all the Harry Potter books in the entire series (yes I read HP; wanna fight about it?), the maximum time used for completing just one book was less than two days. One of the books is 870 pages deep. Now, I'm not limited to the wacky wizarding hijinks that occurs at Hogwarts; I pretty much read anything that will catch my eye and imagination by at least the second paragraph. Tananarive Due, Octavia Butler, Walter Mosley...the list literally goes on. My love for reading is almost as strong as my love for music, and depending on the genres of said loves, I may participate in some fraternization of the two. Yes, I'm greedy; damn it.

Moving along...the reason behind my brief "disappearance" lies here. You're looking at the follow-up novel to Sister Soulja's "The Coldest Winter Ever". This is one of those books that sneaks up on you. There you are, enjoying some quiet reading time on the couch...uh-oh, it's getting late...better just read one more chapter, or at least finish the one you started...and before it's too late, it's 3am and you've read half the book.

Or maybe that's just me. :)

Anyways, I'm not some professional, ridiculously high paid book reviewer, so I'll keep it short. If you're a fan of this author...well, you should already have the book. Ha. If you're not a fan of the author but a fan of reading, pick it up.

And if you'd like to have your mind somewhat blown by a fictional character's views on your very own morals, values, mores, religion, race...

...I'm giving the book away. Borrow it, purchase it. READ IT.

e-mailing a 6th grader

LMAO.
One of the little girls I used to work with sends me e-mail all the time. This has to be our funniest conversation.

Me: Awesome! That means you finally got your iPod Touch, correct?

Student: ah... noduh. I just realized tho that u can do that. so whats up w/ u? Guess what? so, yesterday, in math class, we were working on this problem, and it asked how many red marbles zakiyah had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we all cried because we knew that we had alrerady made you lose them all!

I replied to her and told her that they didn't make me lose my marbles.
The adults did.

the battle continues...

I think it's the flu. Thanks to my brother (the original Host), I'm laying in bed, typing on this slow ass laptop, trying to get some work done. The right side of my head feels like it's stuffed with cotton, and some other crap. Juuuust the right side.
Had to call out from work yesterday. Missed work today, and some extra hours at another branch. Ugh! Money is calling, and my germy ass can't answer.
Bright side of things: Scuba Steve stopped by yesterday. Gave me a box of tissues, some TheraFlu...and a Care Bear! Grumpy Bear, to be precise.
I collect Care Bears.
:) the little things...♥

btw: got some new things to post; be back when I can make it downstairs without almost dying.

(deuces.)
edit: I just remembered that I bought tickets for Scuba Steve and I to see Murs, Kidz In The Hall and Rapper Big Pooh. The show's tomorrow. I need to get it together!

rehab.

I messed up.
I just realized that since the opening of my Blogspot, I've spent a lot of time in front of Idiot Box2.
B.K.A my PC.
Consistently I've come to this little ass screen, typing my fingers to exhuastion for...
...that's the problem.
I have no idea what for.
And now I feel bad because I just glanced at my journal. It hasn't been touched since (an amount I'd rather keep anonymous).
Break time already?
:)
Maybe not.
Just a moment, though.

Walk Hard.

So, I wrote yesterday about a blackout at my job and a power outage at my house. I also mentioned that no power meant no heat, so imagine my frustration when I got home--at 5:30-- only to discover that the power was still out. There was virtually nothing to do, so I grabbed a candle and perched on my bed to get ready for some intense reading/writing/alone time. Fast forward to right now (currently 1:19pm), and I'm sick as a dog. The power finally came back on last night a little after 8pm, so I'm assuming that those annoying germs decided to make their move on my immune system between the time of my getting home, and waking up from my nap around 8:15.
Now I'm sitting in the house, quarintining myself; trying to find something On Demand. I feel like laughing, because nasal congestion is already depressing enough, so I find some comedies to narrow down my search. Bam. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. I never went to see it when it came out in theaters; I was a little skeptical of how funny it would really be; and when it started coming on cable I only caught bits and pieces of it. But now, I've finally grabbed the chance to watch it from beginning to end.
I laughed so hard the congestion disappeared.
The movie isn't split-your-side-funny...unless you're a fan of dry humor, sarcasm and subliminal jokes. The messages in this movie are worth paying attention to, and the delivery of each one is pretty creative. I dug it.

One of my favorite scenes. I'm not supporting/condoning/admitting to anything, but this is genius.

Back to my homemade herbal tea, chicken broth and movie watching.
