Harold and Kumar Go to...The WHITE HOUSE?!

photo and story courtesy of cnn.com
"Actor and longtime Obama supporter Kal Penn is joining the Obama administration, the White House confirmed to CNN Tuesday.
The actor will be part of the White House Office of Public Liaison, which is run by Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett. Penn will be primarily involved in dealing with Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and the arts community."

One more thing that makes Obama look awesome in my eyes.
FYI: If you don't know who Kal Penn is, I'm sure you've been living under a rock. Underwater. On Mars.
And...if Obama is cool with putting Kal Penn on his administration...I'm pretty sure other things will be on the way.
420 things, to be precise.
:o)

Monkeys and Stimulus Bills...there's a connection?!

Photo courtesy of New York Post

Errr uhhh...WTF?
From my understanding, this is supposed to be a comic about a woman who was attacked by her pet chimp. But...what does the stimulus bill have to do with it?
This was actually posted in today's paper. Sean Delonas is the credited cartoonist.
In my opinion, a picture is worth a thousand words. If this cat can come up with a logical explanation as to why a chimpanzee is related to our Pres' first legislative victory, maybe I'd consider seeing the other side of the coin. Until then, I'd like to call this casual racism...? Maybe? I mean, can you blame me? I'm doing the visual math.
Two white police officers+one dead monkey=stimulus bill joke
Somebody has some explaining to do, but luckily; our good ole permed up buddy, the Rev. Al Sharpton, is already on the case.

Sure, Sharpton (and maybe myself) could be making a mountain out of a mole hill. Maybe he's implying that whoever wrote the stimulus bill (The House?) had the mental capacity of a monkey? Yeah, maybe that's it.
But, wait...it's been scientifically proven that monkeys are as smart as humans, Zig. Look at the woman who got attacked. Her chimp let himself out of the house by using a key and unlocking the door. All on his own.
Welp, my self conscious just told me to rule that connection out.
So...what do you guys think? Is this something that should be swept under the rug?
Is it really that serious? What should happen to Delonas? Are you just as confused as I am?

damn, it feels good.

obama teaching Pictures, Images and Photos
Just think...there was a time when "white house" and "black president" put together in a sentence was downright oxymoronic. But now, hopefully we can all breathe easier knowing that after yesterday, Barack Hussein Obama is officially the 44th President of the United States. There's little controversy surrounding if he's literally the first or not (John Hanson ring a bell? Of course it won't, he's not in the books), but I'll be fair and say that right now it shouldn't even matter at this point, because this one is IN THE BOOKS.

Now, although I'm 30 minutes away from D.C., I preferred to be at home watching history from tv via CNN. Other than the Inauguration itself (I cried enough for everyone on my block), there were definitely some highlights, but here were some things I enjoyed:

-Rev. Joseph Lowery's Inaugural Benediction: classic. He even got his rhyme on toward the end. "The brown can stick around, and the yellow can be mellow..." Who's mad at that?
-Those "Hippies for Obama" buttons. I neeeeeed one!
-Something I did at home: Yelling "Get the fu*k out!" when certain (coughBushcough) people were shown leaving the White House. Glad to see you go, really.
-Spike Lee's fitted: "The NY with the joint!" Spotted him wearing this joint on Good Morning America. It was the topic of discussion for a good 3 minutes before Spike changed the subject.

Definitely a day to remember. We've come a long way, but now it's time for the turnaround. FYI: just because we've accomplished something great does NOT give you the excuse to slack up! This is all the more reason to work harder than before. Personally, I think that as soon as Obama was announced the President Elect, some things should have happened in the atmosphere. It's ridiculous that with this historic change going down, the murder rates in inner cities are slowly skyrocketing. Put the guns down and hug someone. The President looks like YOU!

Peep this, though: Not only do we have a black Pres...he's an African Pres.
I smell revolution...

64...and she's still dope.

I've said it millions of times in this blog, and I'll say it again...Angela Davis is AWESOME! I have yet to meet her (awww), but thanks to Ivan at Hip Hop Is Read, I had the chance to watch her speak out on the Oscar Grant police killing.

If you're not aware of the Oscar Grant story, you can:
1) smack yourself silly for not being aware of the national attention this story has been getting
2)google Oscar Grant
3)check these two videos, smack yourself silly once more...then google Oscar Grant again.
Witness recording of the actual shooting

Angela Davis Speaks About Oscar Grant

Just to brush you up quickly on this story (I don't want to cheat you...do the research!), if you watched the first video you saw the police apprehending a young man on the ground. There's a small struggle, and one officer reaches for his gun and shoots Oscar right in the back. It's been reported that he was shot in the back, but the bullet ricocheted off the ground and through his lung. The officer who shot him has received multiple death threats since the shooting. I'm hoping there's some actual justice brought to this entire situation; the cop needs to be convicted. Point blank.

My prayers go out to Grant's family and loved ones.

Yes, WE DID.

"I feel like...I can put my suitcase down, finally."
-Whoopi Goldberg

We are all truly blessed to be alive and experience history. I've been crying since last night, celebrating this awesome moment with my family. WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!It's still hard to believe, but it's been done. Obama had everything thrown at him but the kitchen sink; Jeremiah Wright controversy, false accusations on his religious and political ties; things that should have ended his campaign before it started, honestly. But those who carry faith as I do knew that the election was over before it started. The entire world is still celebrating, and even that speaks volumes to what this black man is about to do for this country. I'm especially excited for my generation's power throughout this election. Thanks to all the young people who voted to make this happen. We are showing the world that we have a voice. It makes me happy to know that right now, my ancestors are smiling at all of us who made this change happen right now. MLK, Malcolm X...I don't have to name them all, because we know. They died for us to exercise the right that we used yesterday. They're finally happy for us. Ashe, and Amen.

The tears I cried last night, and even today, have not all been for me or Obama. I have members of my family who never thought they would be alive to witness something of this magnitude. My grandparents grew up in a heavily segregated south; experiencing Jim Crow and racism in its prime, at my age! Even my father, at 57 years old, remembers having to walk with his mother to the backs of restaurants in the kitchen area to pick up their dinner. As I think about Obama's future inauguration taking place on the steps of a place built by our enslaved forefathers, tears form in my eyes once again. This is simply overwhelming.

Now, the real work begins. As a people, we have shown not only this country, but the world, that we are still the backbone of these United States. There is no longer a reason to complain; the only thing that holds us back is ourselves. Of course everything is not going to change overnight, and threatening issues that plagued our people will still continue, if not, stronger than before; but last night we proved officially that we can do ANYTHING. We should all strive to do our best to make ourselves stronger. We've put him in the White House, now let's show the world exactly why we have all deserved the right to celebrate. It'll be a lot of work, but seriously, it's all worth it.

That means: party on, everyone!

A smile comes to my face as I realize my little brothers (blood and spiritual) don't have to aspire to be just big name sports figures or music "moguls". They can run this country, too.

I'm also extra excited for myself because despite that wack ass flu I had, I still managed to get out of my bed at 6AM to vote! The whole family went, minus my pops (he worked in the am); but plus Scuba Steve. LOL, he had to wait in the other line, on the other side of the polling place...seperate precinct from us. Awww.
Did I take pictures?
Of course, I did.

so...i'm excited.

Election Day is tomorrow.
The fact that we are about to make history yet again pumps me with so much adrenaline. I will admit, I've never been so fully involved with politics until now, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who will say the same. Just imagine the arguments/debates I've been in, with friends (!), listening to them say they're not voting because they don't trust "The Man". "Even if he does win, what is it ultimately going to do for me?" "The government never gave a damn about us before, Obama won't make them start". Get over it! Something we all need to realize: at the end of the day, this election is no longer about us. Think about the people who marched, preached and died for us to have this one right. I'm pretty sure they weren't doing what they did to make their resumes look better.

I'm only extra excited because of the turnout of people voting this election, old and young. A woman came to my job a few weeks back and asked for a registration form; it was her first time voting. She was 46. My neighbor that I've lived across the street from all my life is voting his first time ever. He was born in 1934. LOL, there was even a woman who came to my job to see if she was still registered; she stopped voting while Bush was in office.

I'm extremely happy for my grandmother. The fact that she is literally about to experience a full circle is simply overwhelming. She's a very religious woman, so she's cried and thanked Jesus for Obama more times than I can count. She's also 71 years old, so she's seen and experienced the struggle that inevitably led to this moment. She always tells me stories of her and her family protecting themselves from the KKK in South Carolina. I've been told I had a great-great-aunt who made her own dynamite. Righteous. :)

The comical part of this whole election craziness is some of my coworkers. HILARIOUS, middle aged white women who cannot stand Sarah Palin. LMAO, the things they say about her...whooo! Brings a tear to my eye.

Even though I'm still sick, I plan on being at the polling place when they open (7AM), bundled up until I feel like the Michelin Woman. Luckily, the spot is right around the corner from my house, so there won't be a lot of time wasted on getting there. I'm going to wait however long I have to to make sure the man I want in office is rightfully put there...to my fullest extent, of course. Ha.
I will say; since this is the day before elections...if I get one more automated call from some city official/non profit org/person trying to move up, I'm going to disconnect my phone. For today.

(deuces.)

btw: Those women I spoke on a few lines ago? One of them sent me this. She's like...my work mother. Love this lady's spirit.

Scary stuff...but peep it...
It's personalized. *dies laughing*
The layout of the page is pretty sick, too; make your own if you'd like.
(Thanks to MoveOn.org)
The woman who sent me this is also the same woman who hired me. LMFAO. Ahh, Life.

UPDATE: Just got word that Obama's grandmother has passed away. I'm personally sending my prayers and condolences to him and his entire family.
There are obviously things outside of the government that are going to try and stop this from happening. But we've got this.

ill doctrine is for the children!

Jay Smooth.

He's pretty dope.
Carries a
Bobbito type vibe; to me, that is. LOL, maybe? Not so much.
And his site is pretty dope as well.
hiphopmusic.com

btw: McCain's defeatist attitude is just downright sexy. LMAO. It's in the bag, folks. Let's just not do anything too image damaging for another 6 days, and we've got this.

a haha halloween.

The story behind the picture:
Symbolism is a wonderful thing, eh?
I swear, if I was younger...me and a friend would definitely rock these costumes. Together. And go trick-or-treating.
Shock value, folks.
;)
